Morgan County Jr. Livestock Shows and Sale

Rules and Regulations
The Morgan County Jr. Livestock June Show is a progress show and is not a terminal show. Kamas Fiesta Days is also a progress show and held in Kamas, UT the end of June.  The Fair Show is a terminal show. The Morgan Co. Jr. Livestock Sale will be held during the Morgan County Fair. 
Exhibitor Eligibility: The Morgan County Jr. Livestock Shows and Sale is open to all youth who are residents of Morgan County. To sell an animal, exhibitors must be in the third grade, but not less than 8 years of age as of January 1 of the current year. Exhibitors can only show through the same season as their high school graduation, but not past their 19th birthday.   Exhibitors must be enrolled in 4-H or FFA prior to the Morgan County Jr. Livestock June Show.  Exhibitors are strongly encouraged to enroll in 4-H by Jan 1, so they will receive information in a timely manner.
Livestock Eligibility: 
1.   A 4-H/FFA member in Morgan County must own market livestock for the following minimum of days: Beef – 120 days, Lambs – 60 days, Hogs – 60 days. The animal must be tagged with a Morgan County tag for the required number of days owned. Animals will be tagged at a tagging/weigh in:  Date, time and location to be announced.  
2. Weight Limits: Beef – 1050 pounds and up. Lambs – 105 pounds and up. Hogs -230 to 300 pounds. All market animals will be weighed and divided into classes. Classes will be posted following the weigh-in. Under weight animals will show in a feeder class. No under weights will sell. Over weight hogs will not show for Grand and Reserve Champion.
3. All animals will be subject to a health inspection at weigh-in. Lambs must be slick shorn and uncovered at the weigh-in. No animal will be exhibited or sold unless found to be in a thrifty, sound, disease free, healthy condition. Any animal found unhealthy will be removed from the grounds.   All livestock FDA rules on the use of drugs will be the responsibility of the exhibitor. Anyone using drugs on livestock will have the animal withdrawn from the show and sale. Any animal carcass found with drug residue or condemned at slaughter will result in forfeiture of sale proceeds. Any animal force fed will not be allowed to show. During the livestock event, in the case of an animal requiring treatment, all medication must be preauthorized by the Morgan Co. Jr. Livestock Committee. Unruly animals can be sifted at the discretion of the species chairman.  The Jr. Livestock Committee will have the final decision on any animals sifted prior to the show.   Any animal sifted during the Fair Show will not sell
4. All market lambs must be slick shorn. “Slick shorn” means the lamb appears to have been recently shorn completely over the entire body from above the knees and hocks to behind the ears (less than ¼” wool). No butt wool. Must pass tail dock rule: Supervisor’s discretion.
Sale Eligibility:
1. To be eligible to sell, exhibitors must have shown EACH participating animal at the Morgan County Jr. Livestock June Show or at Kamas Fiesta Days in addition to the Morgan County Fair. Due to PRRS (a reproductive hog disease), hog exhibitors must have attended the Morgan County Jr. Livestock June Show and participated in the judging contest and the hog educational program or have presented a demonstration to the hog leaders.
2. A Bill of Sale is required on all market animals. In addition brand inspections will be required on the steers and scrapies tags will be required on ewe lambs. Above mentioned paperwork is due at the Fair weigh-in.
Show Rules:
1. Exhibitors must be properly dressed in 4-H or FFA approved attire for the shows.
2. Exhibitors must show their own animal for showmanship. No adult will show for a junior exhibitor. 
3. Showmanship will be divided into the following classes: 3-5 grade, 6-8 grade, 9-12 grade of previous school year. Order of the classes will be posted.  
Sale Rules:
1. Animals will sell by the head. All Grand and Reserve Champion winners in the market classes of the beef, sheep and swine divisions are required to sell their winning animals at the Morgan Co. Jr. Livestock Sale. Only blue and red ribbon animals will sell. Exhibitors may only sell one animal. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to declare which animal will be sold immediately following their individual shows.  
2. ALL sales must go through the Jr. Livestock Show Sale Committee, including packer bought animals. In order to cover various Jr. Livestock and sale expenses, a sale commission of 4% for beef and 6% for lambs and hogs will be assessed for all animals going through the Jr. Livestock Sale. 
3. Exhibitors must be properly dressed in 4-H or FFA approved attire for the Jr. Livestock Sale.
4. As to the PRRS rule – the owner must sign a release guaranteeing slaughter before the hog is released from the fairgrounds.
5. NO market animals will be released from the fairgrounds until 8:00 p.m. Saturday night.
5. Exhibitors will be required to submit a finished up-to-date 4-H portfolio or FFA livestock record book and an appreciation letter to their buyer prior to receiving their sales proceeds.
The Morgan County Junior Livestock Committee reserves the right to interpret all livestock rules and regulations for the best interest of the shows and sale.
